Petra Veenswijk - OrganPetra Veenswijk studied organ and harpsichord at the Rotterdam Conservatory, The Netherlands. In 1989 she graduated as performing organist with André Verwoerd and Bernard Winsemius and in 1990 harpsichord with David Collyer.
In 1985 she has won the National Organ Competition in Leiden, The Netherlands in the category ‘Music from the Twentieth Century’. In 1990 she was awarded the third prize and the public award at the International Rijnstreek Organ Competition at Nijmegen, The Netherlands. |
After her graduation she received a scholarship of the Dutch Department of Education, Culture and Science to follow interpretation classes with Daniel Roth at Paris, France for one year. Petra continued her studies in Paris at the ‘Conservatoire National de Région’, Paris, France with Marie-Louise Jaquet- Langlais and Jean Langlais. For this study she was awarded the “Prix d’Excellence” (1991). She is among the last students of Jean Langlais.
From 1989-1991 she attended several interpretation classes at the Schola Cantorum, also at Paris, with among others Marie-Claire Alain, André Fleury and Gaston Litaize.
As an international concert organist she performs many concerts throughout the year, in the Netherlands as well as abroad. Her repertoire includes the complete organ oeuvre from early keyboard music to contemporary organ literature, with a special preference for the French symphonic repertoire.
She has performed on all major organs within The Netherlands. She frequently preforms aboard; France, (i.a. Paris, St.Sulpice), Germany, (i.a. Altenburg, Freiberg, Altenberg), UK, (i.a. Canterbury Cathedral), Belgium, (i.a. Gent, Antwerpen, Brugge), Norway, (i.a. Stavanger, Bergen), Czech Republic, (Prague), Brasil, (Rio de Janeiro), Italy, (i.a. Festival Ragusa), Estonia, Switzerland, etc,.
Petra is frequently invited to be a member of the jury at organ and music competitions.
She gives lectures, Masterclasses and workshops on French romantic organ music and the music of Jean Langlais in particular. She regularly provides radio broadcasts of organ music. She has published several CD’s on French symphonic organ repertoire. They all were well received by the music media.
Since 1987 she is organist of the Maria van Jesse Church in Delft, The Netherlands and from 1994 she combines the position of organist and choir master. She also is responsible for the International organ series in the Maria van Jesse Church, Delft- NL.
In 1996 she was awarded the silver medal of the Société Académique ‘Arts-Sciènces-Lettres’ in Paris. In April 2018 she was awarded with the “Ridder (Knight) in de Orde van Oranje Nassau”.
